# That part of the horizontal piping of a drainage system that extends from the end of the building drain and that receives the discharge of the building drain and conveys it to a public sewer, private sewer, private sewage disposal system or other point of disposal (WHO 2006).
# See also [[House sewer|house sewer]]
# A building sewer is the below ground property sewerage drain. It is a drain that is external to the building and connects to the public sewer connection point, or to an onsite treatment and disposal system (American Society of Sanitary Engineering 2007).

==Explanation==
A building sewer is the drainage pipe system which is usually privately owned. It is not
part of a public sewer network operator’s asset. It can be referred to as a property drain or
a property sewer. It is contained within the property, external to the building and is the
responsibility of the building owner/occupier to maintain (World Plumbing Council Working
Group 2008).

==Example==
A building sewer is the below ground drain that is an extension of the building drain and is
external to the building. It conveys the sewage and waste water away from the building to a
public sewer connection point, or to an onsite storage treatment and disposal system
(World Plumbing Council Working Group 2008).
